What do you love about vintage?
I think my favorite thing about vintage is the fact that people seemed to care. Even in the 70s, people had the bright outfits and fun colors. Now it's just a mish mash of cheaply made rags. :/ I love wearing/buying/photographing vintage clothing and just imagining the life it had before it came into my hands.
What is the best item you have ever come across when you have been vintage/thrift shopping?
That's a tough one to decide! One of my favorites, is this bright orange/red/black abstract print dolly dress that I've had since high school! It still fits (whew!) and has the cutest rick rack trim. I think my current favorite in my store is the Saks Fifth Avenue chocolate brown cocktail dress. Those beads are AMAZING.
Do you have a style or method you use when vintage/thrift shopping?
I mostly just hit the local estate sales. Those are actually tougher than thrifting, because everyone turns into rabid monkeys at those things, haha. I still thrift, and just look for what stands out. I have to say, I *love* tacky. I know people are iffy on 80s, but ohhhhh my, I've found some gems! That's a strong point of my store I think - I'm not afraid of anything! ;)
Is there one tip you could share that might help someone who is new to thrifting and vintage shopping?
I think just buy what you like! Always check your garments for potential fall-apartness (loose threads, wobbly heels, etc), and don't be afraid of sequins!
