Succulents and Air Plants

It seems that succulents and air plants are a growing trend in home decor right now.  I'm sure it all started a few years ago when succulents and terrariums became all the rage as centerpieces at weddings (I considered them for my own wedding)  Well they are a trend that I hope stays because I love them.  A friend of ours brought us a succulent from a cut of one of his own and it definitely peeked our curiosity.  I did a quick search on Etsy and found the shop, To Hold, which carries a beautiful assortment of air plants in modern vases.  I love the idea of a plant that I don't have to worry about watering.  I am definitely going to order an assortment for our house.

Fashion Files - Casual Chic Springtime

It seems that Spring has finally arrived, at least here in Florida. I love the cold weather and winter clothes but it's usually about this time that I start getting bored with everything in my closet and yearn for sleeveless shirts and sandals, it's not quite time to pull out the summer clothes yet but it's good to know that it's right around the corner.  I can definitely feel it coming!  I love these casual 'interim' outfits, for when the weather is not really cold, but it's not really hot yet either.  Is anyone else looking forward to a new Spring wardrobe?

Behind the Thrift - Taking it on the Road

I love vintage and thrift shopping, so much so that I will even scout out thrift stores in places we plan to travel to on vacation.  It's always fun to see what other cities have to offer in terms of thrifted goods and some places are pure gold mines when it comes to vintage finds so make it a habit to think outside of your local shopping circle.

While in the mountains last week we hit up several thrift and antique stores and found some really great items which we will be listing in the shop over the next several days.  One of my absolute favorite finds was this vintage leather travel case/trunk.  It's covered in stickers from all the places the owner traveled to.  It's such an amazing piece.

A week in the mountains

Mike and I are just getting back from spending a week at my parent's cabin in North Carolina.  It was so incredibly relaxing and honestly, just what we needed.  We managed to get in a little bit of vintage shopping and found some amazing things for the shop which we will be listing over the next few days.  On the way home we stopped in Atlanta to eat at Flip, Richard Blias's hamburger joint...amazing - the chorizo burger was phenomenal!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! I thought I would share this homemade marshmallow recipe I found recently. Homemade marshmallows are the best and they are super easy to make.  I love this idea of tinting them pink and cutting them into heart shapes!  Such a great idea for pairing with hot chocolate and enjoying with your hubby, which I definitely plan to do today!  I've also always had a lot of luck with this recipe from Smitten Kitchen. Enjoy!

Fashion Files - A hair tutorial

My hair is getting really long...like I haven't had it cut since August long. I know, that's bad on so many levels but I have no patience for sitting in a chair long enough to get a trim, this is the same reason I don't get manicures or watch movies...it's really hard for me to commit that kind of time to one event and no I don't have ADD.  I just can't help but think of all the other things I could be doing instead and so I put off such tasks until I absolutely have no choice.

I really want to take advantage of my super long hair and do more with it but all I ever seem to do is blow dry it and wear it down. One of my goals this year is to do more with my hair so I've been on the lookout for cute and easy things to try with my hair.  I found this tutorial on A Cup of Jo and the look is so simple and adorable, I can't wait to try it.

Our bedroom

Good morning.  I finally kicked the flu and am feeling MUCH better!  I'm stil trying to take it easy but the worst is behind me and I finally feel like myself again.

I was able to snap a few photos of our newly painted bedroom.  I am so in love with the color, it turned out much better than I anticipated.  It's a little more blue than I thought it would be but I really love it.

Remember this little thrifted dresser project from last year?  We painted the dresser but the color just isn't us and it really doesn't go with the grey walls so we're sanding it down again and we're going to stain it a light blond/ash color.  We found the mirror at a thrift store as well and we're going to stain it to match the dresser. We're also in search of nightstands and we are working on making a headboard out of fabric.

I'm here

Hi everyone.  I just wanted to let you know that it's been quiet around here for the past couple of days because I have come down with quite a nasty case of the flu...fever, cough, the works.  It's had me bed ridden and pretty miserable since the weekend.  I'm sure this is my body's way of trying to get me to take it easy but as the baskets of laundry and dust bunnies pile up all over the house I'm finding it hard to sit still.  I'm not sure if I'm feeling better or if delirium has set in but I just attempted, with a fever creeping upwards of 100, to get out the dust buster.  Mike gave me some major stink eye and sent me back to the couch.  I'm such a horrible patient...but I do promise to be up and blogging again very, very soon.
